FIG Commission 1 - Professional Standards and Practice
 

"FIG Commission 1 focuses on establishing a set of ethical principles that fits the surveying profession for reference by professional institutions. It also focuses on promoting greater understanding and improving community perceptions about the surveying profession, which is underlined by the foundation’s vision to improve gender equality and maintaining global peace and justice, in line with Goal No. 5 and 16 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals respectively."

Commision 1, Chair Elect

August 2021

The General Assembly elected Mr. Timothy W. Burch from the United States of America, NSPS, as the Chair Elect of Commission 1.

 

Commission 1 at FIG Working Week 2021

August 2021

The Working Week took place online 20-25 June 2021. Commission 1 held its annual meeting with outset in their prepared Report and Agenda. Commission 1 was also involved in sessions covering Commission 1 areas within the theme of Smart Surveyors for Land and Water Management.

Each member association has the right to nominate a delegate to each of the ten technical commissions. In addition Affiliates, Academic Members and Corporate Members  are welcome to nominate a correspondent to each commission.

Achievements
The publication addresses surveying methodology and experiences in the delimitation and demarcation of international boundaries. Read the publication The FIG Young Surveyor Network was established, with the initial purpose to bring more YS into FIG, as Commission 1 ‘Working Group'. This policy document is aimed at enhancing the opportunities for under-represented groups in FIG with particular focus on gender, youth and minorities.  Read the publication There are perhaps three ways in which to make a case that standards are important. Firstly, the breadth of standardisation activities.  Secondly, there are the benefits of standardisation. Thirdly, at a very practical level, all aspects of our lives involve standardisation.
