President CheeHai TEO interacts with the Mongolian 
	Association  of Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography

				President CheeHai Teo spent an entire evening with the President 
	of the FIG Member Association from Mongolia, Mr. ENKHTUVSHIN Baatar 
	and some of his Board Members and they interacted extensively on 
	professional and association related issues and matters. Together with Mr. 
	Enkhtuvshin are Mr. ERDENEBAATAR, Ms MUNKHZUL and Mr. TUMURBAT. Mr. Enkhtuvshin and his fellow Board Members provided 
	President Teo with a general overview of the profession, practice and 
	industry in Mongolia, the current state of affairs within the Association as 
	well as the issues and challenges.  
				Some the Profession’s challenges in Mongolia include bringing about 
	greater cohesiveness within the profession, establishing appropriate 
	standards that will raise the level of practice within the industry, the 
	need for continuing professional development, the desire for a vibrant and 
	economically attractive practising environment to retain the younger within 
	the profession, the efforts towards a permanent office and stable 
	administration and the desire for better rapport, interaction and 
	collaboration between the Association, the Administration of Land Affairs, 
	Construction, Geodesy and Cartography and the Mongolian Government in 
	general to further advance the role and contribution of the surveying 
	profession in national development and economic progress.  
				Throughout the evening, the interaction and discussion centered on 
	possible initiatives and appropriate actions that may address these 
	challenges taking cognizance of the resources and means that is currently 
	available within the Association. It was recognized that the Association 
	would need to continue promoting volunteerism among its membership, as well 
	as needing to work within current constraints. President Enkhtuvshin and his 
	Board Members were encouraged to tap into the resources available within 
	FIG, particularly from the website, to connect and network with others 
	within FIG via Commissions and whenever possible, participate in FIG’s 
	activities and events. In this regard, President Teo reaffirmed FIG’s 
	support for the 3rd FIG Commission 5 and 6 Workshop on “Innovative 
	Technology for an Efficient Geospatial Management of Earth Resources” that 
	will be held for the first time in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia between 4 and 8 
	September 2011. The Association, FIG and the Siberian State Academy of 
	Geodesy are organising this event. President Enkhtuvshin and his Board 
	Members expressed a desire to host other FIG Commission related activities, 
	knowing that these efforts will contribute towards developing and advancing 
	the Profession in Mongolia.
